He was born in Bahn, Zoe-Geh District, Nimba County, Liberia. He received early formal education from an Islamic teaching school under the tutelage of his father, Karmo Sorie Ja’neh. In 1979, he obtained a High School Diploma from the A.M.E (African Methodist Episcopal) Zion Academy in Monrovia. He immediately thereafter commenced his public service career as “Clerk”, Civil Engineering Department at the Freeport of Monrovia, National Port Authority. Over a period of 18 (eighteen) years, he rose through the ranks occupying such positions as Senior Statistician, Superintendent (Container and later Pier) and Operations Manager. He served as Port Manager of the Free Port of Monrovia (1995-1997). Justice Ja’neh matriculated to the University of Liberia and in 1982 obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Geography in 1987. Thesis: “The impact of Logging on the Forest Ecosystem in Liberia: Maryland Logging Company as a case study”. Also in 1987, he received a Teacher’s Certificate from a Khartoum, Sudan-based Specialized Teacher’s Training Group. He taught Geography (part time) at the Muslim Congress High School (1986-1988). He matriculated to the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, and acquired an L.L.B. in law, in February, 1990. Also in 1990, he travelled and attended the Arab Maritime Academy in Alexandra, Egypt. There he received a Diploma in Planning and Administration of the Maritime Industry. In 1994, Justice Ja’neh received another Diploma, this time in “Organizational Techniques, Planning & Port Management” from APEC (Association of Port Engineering Consultants), Antwerp, Belgium. In the same year, (1994), Justice Ja’neh was admitted to the Bar as Attorney-At-Law. In 1995, he was awarded a further Diploma in General Maritime Administration (to include Laws of the Sea for senior port administrators conducted by the Louisiana State University, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America (USA). He also holds a Certificate in Opinion Drafting and Legal Writing (2008), National Judicial College, Reno, Nevada, USA).

Between the years 1994-1999, he practiced law, associating with the Freeport’s Legal Section, Center for Law and Human Rights Education, Association of Liberian Professional Lawyers and later became a member of the Firm, Legal Services, Inc. operated by Mr. Justice Karmo Soko Sackor, Sr. and Counsellor Snonsio E. Nigba as Senior Partners. In 1998, Mr. Justice Ja’neh was admitted to the Supreme Court Bar as Counsellor-At-Law. Between 2003 and early 2006, Counsellor Ja’neh served as Minister of Justice & Attorney General, Republic of Liberia. During his tenure as Minister of Justice, Counsellor Ja’neh also served as Chairman of the Mano River Union Security Council. As Minister of Justice in 2004, he attended and received a Certificate in Harmonization of International Penal Code held in Beijing, China. In 2006, Counsellor Ja’neh was appointed by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Associate Justice of the Supreme Committee of Liberia. He served (2007-2008) as Chairman of the Steering Committee leading to the establishment of the James A.A. Pierre Judicial Institute. He was the First Chairman of the Board of Governors of the James A.A Pierre Judicial Institute (2008-2010). Mr. Justice Ja’neh is a lecturer in Criminal Law.
